“Riptides Raw Bar And Grill. My initial introduction to Riptides Raw Bar And Grill was at the Halifax Oyster Festival in Daytona this April where they were one of the vendors at the annual event but that’s a whole other review covered elsewhere.The first thing you notice when you walk through the door at Riptides is the neat, clean, well appointed environment and wide open atmosphere. The numerous tables are spaced far enough apart that even when the indoor dining area is full, it doesn’t feel cramped or crowded. For those days when the weather is good, there is also plenty of outdoor seating available. Whether you dine indoors or out, expect a tableside visit from general manager Shawn Flaherty to see how you’re doing and if you need anything. That’s a nice personal touch. It shows respect and concern for the customer and you do not see a lot of that at most local establishments these days.The Raw bar itself is located at the north end of the building serving up very fresh oysters and happy-hour raw oyster specials on weekday afternoons. A good selection of draft beer is available as well as 100 oz. beer tubes for the very thirsty or very adventurous patrons. We sampled the fish tacos, surf & turf bisque, a giant Beach burger basket and excellent Po’ Boy sandwiches overflowing the bun with your choice of either Shrimp or Oyster filling all served with seasoned fries. I moved to Daytona a few years ago from up north. I miss nice sophisticated bars that I would frequent in PA. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go have a few drinks and we stumbled into a bar called Riptides. The inside is not what you would expect from just looking at the outside. The outside looks like a nice beachy hangout where you would get some good food. When I walked into Riptides for the first time I was blown away. Finally a nice place that is classy, with good food, and also pretty good drink specials. I am not going to lie, the food is a little pricey but it is so delicious and you can just tell it is so fresh. I would rather play a little more money to have an awesome, fresh dinner. I am not a fan of oysters but my boyfriend made me try the rockefellar oysters and they were so delicious. For my main meal I had the stuffed grouper with beans and rice and It was probably one of the best meals I have had in a long time. On top of all the great food there was a live acoustic band playing. We had only planned to stay for the meal but with the live entertainment we stayed for a few drinks and sat at the bar. The bar staff was really friendly and personable. The one bartender was raving about the different homemade desserts but because we were so full from dinner we could not manage another bite of food. My boyfriend and I do plan on going back to try the famous “fried cheesecake”. I can’t express how much of a good time I had there. I hope everyone with negative comments goes back and tries it again. I had such a blast and I have been raving about the place since.
My husband and I visited last week. BEST SEAFOOD in Daytona/Ormond hands down! Very creative menu and friendly staff. The Shrimp and Avocado rolls and Tequila Grouper are a must try item! Honestly, anyone that has anything negative to say about this place has obviously not tried the food! As a local, we should support our local business owners, especially when they bring something this innovative to the area!
Relaxed atmosphere with ocean surf vibe. We ordered Wings and the Tequila Lime Grouper. Both were great. The grouper was amazingly fresh and one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had. We moved outside after dinner and enjoyed more drinks and live acoustic music. We look forward to going back!
Some friends and I decided to go out for some drinks on a Friday night after work. Most places in the area don’t run happy hours after 7 but we showed up to this place around 10 and found out their specials just STARTED! They have this really neat “beer tube” that holds 100oz of draft beer. Since we all couldn’t agree on a beer for the tube, I just decided to suck down the $2 Coors light pints all night. The atmosphere is great and the surf theme is perfect. The kitchen must stay open pretty late because we all ordered various things from the menu at 1130PM. I had a half dozen raw oysters, a poboy that was packed with fried shrimp and sweet potato fries! DE-LICIOUS! The bar staff were friendly and sexy 😉 We will definitely be back for more food and entertainment!
This place has the absolute best oysters in town. The manager and owner come to the table and visit every time we are there. Please try this place. It is awesome.
Went from an employee passing out flyers on the beach. Good happy hour specials, very friendly staff, Travis was our waiter and he was great! Very personable and knowledgable about the dishes. Smoked tuna dip and raw oysters were yummy. Dinner we had the grouper sandwich, surf & turf bisque and crab and avocado spring rolls. Tried the key lime pie and volcano brownie. He even showed us the other dishes we asked about as they left the kitchen, everything looked great! Cool atmosphere, would definitely go here again. Only open for 1 month with their new owners and they are on the right track.
I loved it! The shrimp and avocado spring rolls are amazing, they melt in you’re mouth with all types of flavors. I also had the lobster tails and they’re to die for! Also try the crabs legs, they’re out of this world. The sunrise mojito is probably my favorite drink, everyone should try it.Â Â To top it off I suggest the brownie. I can’t wait to go back!
We visited Riptides while on vacation and we are glad we decided to try it out! My husband and I started with a dozen of their raw oysters. Super sweet! We could have easily ate another dozen. We decided to try their Po’ Boys. I seriously think the Surfers’ Po’ Boy was even better than the one I had in New Orleans on vacation last year!! I chose the sweet potato fries and it was a great accompaniment to my sandwich. I loved the coleslaw too! It was extremely creamy, but not drowning in dressing. It was a tough choice which dessert to choose. I went for the key lime pie and the hubby decided on the coconut cream cake. Both were great and hit the spot after a fantastic dinner! We will definitely make another trip to Riptides next time we are in town!
Riptides is a welcome establishment in the Ormond Beach area for it’s great atmosphere, fresh food, and excellent staff. Having visited multiple times, it is definitely a must-visit for tourists visiting the area and locals looking for a great new hangout.The Atmosphere:The outside porch is a great place to enjoy the beautiful Florida sunshine, relax, and watch the cars go by on A1A. The large hammerhead shark hanging outside is also a great touch, and definitely catches the eye – a definite photo-op. Heading on inside, the whole place is very bright and inviting with surf videos and memorabilia adorning the walls. They have created a very clean, modern vibe. The main bar has room for plenty, as well as the expansive table seating for even the largest of parties. Nowhere in this place have I ever got the feeling of pretentiousness – people from surfers to bikers, tourists to locals, old and young all intermingle in harmony. It is great to have a place where dress code is what you make it. The raw bar area is also a nice place to hang out – live oyster shuckers working away along side an excellently maintained pool table, shuffle board, and dart boards.The Staff:I have been waited on by a variety of different employees at the raw bar, tables, and main bar, all of whom have been very pleasant, professional, and well educated in their duties and the available selection of drinks and food. They complete the atmosphere of a laid back, friendly place to hang out at any time of day.The Food:Unfortunately, I don’t think words will do justice to just how great the food is here, but here goes… I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for me to have FRESH food made with FRESH ingredients, and Riptides kitchen staff nails it. Having tried items from each category of the menu, I can honestly say there is no bad decision – it all comes down to what you are craving. With several other local restaurants cutting costs by going to pre-packaged, processed gruel, I am supremely impressed that Riptides has stuck to their guns and maintained a high standard for each meal they prepare. Let your taste buds do the deciding for you!
Such a great atmosphere with some of the best FRESH food I’ve ever eaten. The servers and bartenders are all friendly and know how to entertained. The drinks are nice with a generous amount of alcohol (have the Sun Kiss Mojito, you won’t be disappointed). I love going here for their happy hour. Can’t beat getting a dozen raw oysters for $5 and change. Try to find a better deal.
I know a lot of the reviews have been from the first week or two that they’ve been opened, but seriously give this place a chance. It always takes a little bit for a new place to get up and running. They have their act together. They’re in the swing of things. Just remember you don’t want to rush any of your food. You want it cooked. Nothing is frozen here. Everything is fresh. The fish come in head and tail! If you went here the first week, or first night they were open and didn’t have a good time, try it again. This is possibly my new favorite place in town.
